Reading Aloud

euphonia

I frequently read aloud to Jane while she's cooking or driving; it's a pleasant way to spend time together. As a result, I'm always on the lookout for good books which read well aloud. If you have any suggestions, please mail them to me at will@wjduquette.com

What qualities must a book have to read well aloud?

  • It must be relatively light. Jane is usually doing something else at the same time, which excludes books requiring a great deal of concentration.

  • It must have an appropriate rhythm. Some prose reads perfectly well silently, but is hard on the tongue when spoken.

  • Not surprisingly, it must be of interest to both of us.
